Team Meet #3
Review Questions
● What are your learning expectations regarding
a) personal growth,
When discussing my expectations of personal growth, I would say that I have learned a lot from this course through our class and community outreach. Having the opportunity to teach students something new and getting them engaged through STEM is incredibly rewarding to me. I learned to love the sciences closer to middle school, but the sight of watching a child's interest grow, and their eyes start to widen and a smile starts to form, their is no greater feeling. With that being said, I was able to know more of what does and does not work, how to approach shy students, and give others the chance to have more knowledge than the day before is an incredible feeling.
b) civic engagement and
With my work in the honors program, I have the opportunity to give my service to members of the community. Since middle and high school I have volunteered with various groups and organizations. With that being said, participating in civic engagement, and helping strangers to put a smile on their face, has always been something that I care about immensely. I had hoped to learn more about the children in my area, and how I can make a difference in their lives. I can now confidently say I have done both with my work in class.
c) academic enhancement?
I have learned many things about STEM in this class. I was never too familiar with coding and the concept of a Hero Journey, so it was great to plan and build lessons and activities regarding the two. I was most excited with my work with sprites and the Lego coding activities. I came from low income areas throughout my life, where my schools either couldn't afford it, had no one to teach it, or both. Being able to learn them now as a future educator is a bit cathartic. I have enhanced academically more than I could have ever anticipated. It has been great!
● Develop at least one goal from each respective learning expectation area (personal growth, civic engagement, academic enhancement).
a) I hope to continuing growing each semester leading up to my Clinical Teaching and graduation.
b) I will continue volunteering for a continuance of my efforts in civic engagement.
c) I can grow as a student and teacher to always enhance my academics.
Regarding the Policy and Professional Expectation document links:
● How did your participation in this event contribute to your understanding and implementation of the TAMU-CC Teacher Educator Professional Expectations Policy?
From my understanding of the TAMU-CC Teacher Educator Professional Expectations Policy, there are multiple categories to be conscious about when represented TAMUCC as a school. Practices, Communication, Attributes, and Development are each of the categories involved. With the guidance and instruction received from the professor, I believe many of us were able to further grow and learn. I was able to observe and take advice from the other students participating, and had a much better understanding of my expectations the next time.
● In what areas of the Policy do you feel you would need to set goals for yourself if involved in future transdisciplinary collaboratives?
I will work on my behavior towards the students, in the fact that I am always playful and formal, rather than firstly presenting myself as an educator.
